Hello to all ---------- over the last few months, and only on the odd occasiion, I have logged on -----clicked on to a post to reply-----typed my reply-----ticked the acknowledgement box----added up the captcha Nos. and entered the answer----- clicked onto "Add reply"-----and the screen just comes back to "log-on" with the loss of all that typing. Anyone know why that is ??  Is there a time-out or something ?? I must have logged on properly in the first place otherwise how come I'm able to start typing at all ?? Mr Moderator---any ideas ???  This is about the 5th or 6th time in the last 3 months.

Alan, send an email to Graeme at Hitchcocks using the Contact Us address on this site. He is the guy who looks after this site for H's and is in touch with the website designers so hopefully he can sort it out! I do know this problem did show up before the new log in protocol and they thought they'd got it cracked.

Yes, this happened to me too a few weeks ago.

Today is the first time that I have bothered to try again.

I guess that is is better than having all the stuff that we used to have posted on the forum, though!

Hi Alan, I think your right there is a time out. It has happened to me frequently if i sign in and then faff about making tea or some such and not get down to writing the reply instantly. Plus if i'm writing a thesis, (more than six lines) it just takes me too long. I type using the Eagle method,(circle and swoop). At school the boys learned metal work and tech drawing. I never touched a keyboard untill 3 years ago when i got my 1st pooter. There is a way around this, if you can remember to highlight and save your text before sending. Then when it goes wrong simply paste in your words of wisdom and bobs the proverbial. regards gwilly.

Guys

Don't know about the system cutting off your input, but the captcha always gav eme grief.  Now I find that if I type in the answer and then s l o w l y hit post reply twice, it almost always goes though.

PS, lots of replies from  me today 'cos I have the time.  Have finished the porting polish (exhaust) and 100grit smoothing (inlet), put the valves back and can't wait to refit the head.  I have visions of doing.......100kph!!!

Maybe it depends upon your web browser. I use good old IE and hace absolutely no problems in composing, typing and sending messages. I simply click on "Post Reply". It then asks me to log on, which I do. Then type the message. Tick the box do the maths for the Captcha (those calcs are difficult if the answer is over ) then click on "Post Reply".

Simples.

Chris.....100kph? Why that's almost 63 full size imperial miles in the hour! LOL. I shall race you with my 54 year old Model 50, it sounds like it might win. LOL yet again.

Hello to all of you ----------------and thanks for those very supportive posts. So it has happened to others before then ?? Maybe I will contact Graeme and see what can be done. Gwilly--- I hadn't thought of that approach--will try that soon----well, now would be a good a time as any I suppose.   Here's another similar problem-----------I log-in properly, start typing a reply but need to refer to an earlier post for some detail. If you go off page 1 onto page 2 or more, when you return your typings all gone ---Boo-Hoo !!   Why's that ??

DONE IT AGAIN !!! Had already logged-in and done some replies--- just finished  a lengthy reply to Norm----did the bits---clicked the go button ---- and it dissapeared entirely, with the "log-on" page returned and grinning at me !! GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR times 2
