Hi guys----I'm wanting to change the casquette on my 2005 Indian Classic 500 for a 1950's trials top yoke. Are the threads the same today as then or has there been a change. I'm thinking this might do the job if my legs will screw in ??---------------

Alan,
not sure what the ebay number is but I recently fitted a 92590 top yoke to a late model 2005 and the threads are the same

Alan can you tell from the picture if its screw in or pinch bolt? Most of those Redditch top yokes are a pinch bolt fit and haven't got a thread inside them. Someone might correct me but I think only the later ones that went with the airflow fairing or trials had a thread (and the new repro ones).

Hi guys---------- thanks for your collective info, as a direct result of which I've found that our hosts supply an Indian-quality one (part No.92635) which does have the modern threads at £75.(Plus the V.A.T).as opposed to £175 etc. for the highly polished 92590 item. I'm in the process of creating a 1950's-look, Army despatch-riders bike in Desert Sand,(complete with Desert Rat insignia) so this Indian-Quality one will fit the bill as it's going to be painted over in sand-livery anyway.... As usual the forum comes up trumps again !!!!!----

Alan,
I had to turn the pinch bolt down a couple of mm to get it to fit. Also the fork cap screws I turned down because they have to fit down insde the yoke. I then fitted Series 1 Inter plugs to the top of these to bring the screw heads to the top. This part isn't threaded as you will find out.

Alan, hold everything, I forgot the major problem, originally you asked if the legs would screw in. The one I fitted was not the 92590 but the cheaper Indian one.The major problem was that the existing steering stem was about a minimum 7 too short. To rectify this I had to gring the weld off the underside of the fork clamp, finish cutting the weld out with a hole saw, punch the stem up 5mm (it is splined) then reweld it. I then turned 2mm from the underside of the steering stem nut and that gave me a total gain of 7mm. I also had to machine the underside or the inside where the nut goes to get it to seat deeper. I forget exactly what I had to do in there

Hello again folks---- I've been in touch with the vendor of the E-bay item and he tells me that it has the pinch-bolt arrangement, not the threads. (CHRIS TINDAL, you were spot-on there, matey !!)... So that's no good to me then....shame, it was a good price too. NORM, thanks for those Tech. Specs. and will refer to them as the job progresses..... I note that our hosts on-line ads. list the Indian one as "Currently unavailable"---------- I'll have to phone them to check-out the situation and their tech. specs. as well----- I would have thought they'd have threads though ??
