Has anyone fitted the Hitchcocks right shift conversion to a 5 speed indian bullet ?  Are there clear instructions with it ?  Can someone with average spannering skills undertake this modification ?  How long should it take ?

I haven't done one using the Hitchcocks kit, I made my own conversion bits, I bought a brake pedal, but it is very simple and shouldn't take you very long. On the centre stand you will still loose most of the gearbox oil so put a tray under it first

I have done this using our hosts kit.

The job is relatively easy. You do not have to remove the engine and gearbox to do the work but this would make it easier.

I went the full hog and replaced the camplate so that I had up for first gear, the same as my other enfields. This made the job much more dificult as you have remove the gear cluster. I must have had gear cluster in and out about six times before I could select all of the gears.

As I recall the instructions were ok as long as you wern't changing the camplate. I can't remember if you need to remove the clutch to fit the seal into the redundant gear shaft hole in the inner primary chaincase, I had to do this to remove the gear cluster.

Hi DIXTED19

I was thinking to do the same on a 2003 Bullet 65. I rang up Hitchcocks asked them the same question, is it easy? They seemed to say that the complete engine/gearbox needs to be removed to insert a plug in the gearbox some where between the gearbox and engine.

Can anyone confirm this and if so what is this hole that needs blocking up?

Derrick W,   I  want to change the RH gear change  to a one Down,  four up to match with my old Tiger 100. Do you or any one know if this is easier?

. Thanks, Fred

Hi Freddy W ---------Have a look on your Bullet Sixty Five where the gear change shaft comes out of the gearbox-----passes through the oil tank ( a hole drilled through a cast-in internal lug ), -----then through the inner primary chaincase ( A seal is fitted here )----------then through the outer primary chain case ( a seal is fitted here ) ----where it has the change pedal attached to it. With me so far ??  To fit our hosts R/H conversion kit this shaft is obviously removed and the holes in the two chaincases fitted with the plugs supplied (Brass ones I think----look at the picture of the kit in the catalogue ).  I think the advice given refers to the hole where the change shaft came out of the gearbox itself, as this also must be plugged. At this point there is very little clearance.  However, as you are going to be fitting the new front cover anyway, you should be able to mangage with a little dexterity and imagination. Your 1 down, 4-up is item No.90142 @£110 + P and P + VaT (@ 20% ).and it's also the cheaper option. Incidentally, the engine can be removed from the gearbox with the 'box  staying in the frame.  I hope that helps a little. I always carry a little "dexterity and imagination" in my Enfield tool box ( Brummy spanner ?? ). Don't need it on the Classic Honda's ).   Hope that makes sense and helps somewhat ??? Best regards----------------- Alan R
