Hello all,
replaced my head gasket at the weekend and noticed a lot of carbon in the head and on the top of the piston. What can I say I've not been paying attention to the baby. So smaller main jet ordered but this weekend will have to involve a bit of cleaning of the head, and lapping in the valves. (I've lost all compression after the head gasket replacement)


So what's the best method for getting rid of carbon deposits? Flames? Chemicals?

Well not really


Last weekend I replaced the head gasket which meant I had to clean the surfaces where the gasket fits. So I just cleaned up the top of the barrel and only the head where the Gasket sits. I'd some stuff stuck there from the old composite head gasket, which stuck in place.



So now given that I've no compression I'm going back in this weekend to clean the carbon deposits from around the valves in the head. I'll have to clean that part of the head and clean up the seal between the valves and the head. And yes I have re-adjusted the valve clearance with the new head gasket. Now just the carbon and valve seal to sort out.
