Electra EFI (E5) Forks

I am considering changing the fork oil to a lighter grade to soften the damping on my 2011 Electra EFI. The workshop manual suggests that the fork oil can be drained by removing the nut at the bottom of each fork leg. The drawing (not too clear) does not seem to show any path to completely drain all the oil via this route. Is this the way to do it or should the complete leg be removed and upended.

Strangely the C5 fork leg seems to be a totally different design from the E5, especially regarding top tube removal from the yokes and the inclusion of a separate cap at the top of the tube or am I misreading the drawing ?

Any comments folks ?

Just remove the caps at the bottom of each fork (may require a sharp whack to prevent the inside bit turning with it). A small quantity of mysterious grey sludge will come out. Bounce the forks a few times to make sure, then refill with something decent. A straightened wire hanger makes a good dipstick to check the levels are even on each side.
The C5 fork is a different arrangement - G5 owners have it easy....
