Good evening all,

Excuse the long title.

Recently purchased the 50’s bullet style Yoke plus the headlight brackets for my Classic 500 EFI 2017.

I’ve replaced the stanchion heads correctly, and tightened them up. Theoretically the forks should just screw in to the yoke. However, with the Lucas light brackets, screwing the forks in isn't simple.

Does anyone here have a method they recommend?

Inserting the forks and twisting them from the bottom, they just free spin and the stanchion remains still.

Really hope to hear some suggestions.

Thanks!

EFI forks don't screw into the the top yoke.
They have no external thread like the older style had.
All you need to do is push the leg up into the top yoke and insert the large screw to pull the leg tightly into the yoke.
Do have the correct part?

Note: For C5 Classic 2011on and B5 Bullet 2017on with inline forks, use Part Number: 92757

Edit: sorry, Haggis beat me to the Submit button!

I assume you've ordered the correct version of the yoke, there are two. Your mention of trying to screw the fork legs in on a later model Bullet has me a little concerned!

One yoke has threads cut in for the older style forks which have have the threaded stanchion tops. That would be for the older pre-EFI Bullets, as well as the early EFI Electra and C5 EFI Bullets until 2011. Part number 92590.

Then we come to the later C5 and the B5 models, these have PLAIN tops to the stanchions, and the tope yoke just has a plain 35mm bore, so the forks DON'T screw in on these, they just push in and are held at the top with the top screws plus whatever washers they have. Part number 92757. There's a note about it at the bottom of our hosts' listing that you linked to.

Getting the headlamp brackets in with the spacers and rubber washers can be a bit of a faff, I had to slacken off the steering head bearings a little so I could squeeze it all in without the anti-vibration rubber under the chrome (stainless?) trim squashing out of place on the last set I fitted, though that was with a Fury top yoke.

My above comment is the correct model, I didn’t click the year model to sort by parts.

Pictured are the threaded stanchion tops that came with the yoke.

Ah, I see EXACTLY what has gone wrong. Are you by any chance NOT the first owner of this bike?

Some one has come up with a clever non-standard end cap for the stanchion top to allow it to fit the older threaded casquette or fork yoke. This now means that if you ordered the correct plain top fork yoke for how these forks SHOULD have been, they wont fit! Wonderful...

Here's how the later plain fork tops are supposed to look.

So to put your forks back to standard you need the correct end cap, plain top apart from a couple of spanner flats, right-hand thread (whatever anyone else tells you) and just a threaded hole in the top for the top screw. THIS!

Adrian,

No, the forks came like you have shown in your linked photos.

The YOKE came with the stanchion threads for the yoke to screw into, as mentioned in the instructions for the product I had linked later on in the thread.

This forum wont allow me to edit comments for some reason.

92756, 92756FLY &92757 – Alloy Top Yoke
Fitting the Fork Adaptor
FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

The fork adaptors are provided to convert the fork tops into the
traditional Royal Enfield screw in style fitment.

The tops of the fork stanchions should be removed with a 28mm spanner
(these can be quite tight and you may find that lowering them slightly to
gain access and then re-tightening in the bottom yoke will facilitate
disassembly – carefully apply heat if necessary).

Screw on the fork adaptor (tighten with a ½ inch Allen key).

The leg is then ready to screw in to the alloy yoke (be careful not to lose
the ‘O’ Ring).

This is the instruction provided with the part from HITCHCOCKS.
