This is a must see for anyone with doubts about the plain type big ends and their lubrication - I would never have thought this possible if I hadn't experienced this directly myself!

For an engine with a knackered timing side main bearing and shall we say reduced oil pressure, it ran surprisingly well. What will it do with a fully sorted bottom end?

With the sequential revelation of additional issues after each individual problem is fixed that bike seems to be having, probably overpressure the pump and strip the worm drive.

Just goes to show how effective “splash” lubrication can be.

I have an old JAP side valve stationary engine which has a wet sump but has no oil pump. It’s getting on for 80 years old but still going strong, with no sign of big end trouble.

It just goes to show how forgiving these engines are.
