Hi all, I am new to Enfields and have bought a 2007 Sixty 5 with less than 2000 miles on clock but I suspect it maybe has more on it. Anyway have got the left to right conversion which I am about to fit. Is there any suggestions from you 'experts' in regards to alterations/modifications that your experiences tell that I should carry out?

Hi Gerry, I'm sure you will enjoy having a Royal Enfield. It is quite possible that the previous owner has already done some modifications, it is a rare Enfielder who doesn't! I would suggest you ride the bike for a few weeks and during that time you will find out if there are any areas that you would like to improve on. Maybe you might want a bit more power (engine mods), or comfort might be more important (seat/suspension mods) or you might decide what you really want is better lighting! The possibilities are many-fold, you have to decide what you want from the bike.

Have fun with your new bike!

Hi GERRY M ---------- Hold on with that 5-speed, Left-to-Right gearchange conversion for a moment. I seem to remember that NORM came up with a sensible mod. regarding the blanking plugs / new change shaft that needs to be fitted. Meanwhile my own 3 favourites that are V. easy to do :--- a) Our hosts front brake mod. ( see Technical Notes on the L/H side of this page

Hi have same bike ...headlight mod described above is a must....putting a better bulb in helps.
I changed for the fifties style silencer in the catologue from Hitchcocks and up jetted carb as they suggested this gave much better performance especially without a baffle.
Clutch adjustment makes gearbox so much better.Turn in screw on pushrod until clutch slips then back screw off slowly until it stops slipping.
never met any on who has converted back to right foot shift so cant offer a view on that.
Best thing i did was to run on 97 RON unleaded.
Also when you replace rear chain take a link out after about 100 miles to get better chain adjustment;
lastly dumped crap catch can put a hose from crank case to back of panniers (mine is military spec) and block off small breather from top of timing case.
Most of all enjoy !!!!!!!

Hi Gerry and Alan, sorry I can't remember what mods I came up with and with my shifter I just used the original shaft and cut it down and welded the splined end to the arm in the box and I left enogh rod on the other side to stick out through the original inner gearbox seal. I'm not sure how our hosts setup works but there is no way I would consider removing the motor and box to fit a plug. What I would do in this situation is cut the end off the original shifter rod, file the cut end and poke it through from the gearbox side as per original fitment,through the motor and into the inner primary case. This then plugs the hole on the inner primary and the gearbox. Then I would fit a bolt,washer and nut into the outer primary to stop this shaft from moving out of the gearbox. You can then check in the gearbox side that the shaft has just come through the inner seal and you can then get on with the conversion. Either cut the shaft or bolt in the outer primary to length to allow the shaft to sit just through the seal.You have to get the position of the shaft fairly close to the original position so that the inner primary seal sits on the correct part of the shaft. Probably easiest to fit the outer cover with the new shifter fitted and with a piece of wire or similar, poke it through from the inner primary side untill it touches the inside of the shifter in the box and that will give uou the measurement to cut the original shifter rod. Sounds complex but isn't

Gerry,
Just having a look at a shifter shaft, I'm wondering if you have to cut the end off the shaft. You might be able to push the shaft through the box, up against the seal and fit the new shaft infront of it, just a thought, I can't remember how much room there is between the shifter and the seal

Hi NORM----yes, that was the general idea I seemed to remember you came up with a while ago.

Thank you Norm for that information, as I said in earlier post I thought there was any easier way to convert other than taking out 'box. Will get on with it and let you know how it goes.I have full facilities so no problem.

Thanks to Alan for shouting loud to Australia!!!.
