My new Goldie exhaust (1989 350) has just ejected its baffle for the second time, despite tightening the nut hard and using loctite. Anyone had the same problem and is there a good way of ensuring I don't lose the next one.
The fact that I can lose the baffle without noticing goes to show what little difference to the sound it makes. I would like to make it a bit quieter, and people recently were referring to sound deadening material easily obtainable on ebay. I haven't seen any for sale; how do you get it, and how would I use it on the Goldie exhaust?

There are much longer baffles available on fleabay, up to about 12" long. I've no idea how much improvement there is on the pointless little one that comes with the "silencer".

Hi John
500 Sixty5
I bought a longer exhaust baffle off of Ebay 8 inch long for about a tenner. Had no trouble bolting it in, just used a spring washer and it stayed in OK........................................... BUT BUT.... It seemed just as loud, and it lost that nice Brrrrrrrrrrrring sound on overun, not a tweet like an original Goldie but acceptable, and The engine seemed to lose a bit of power, Throttle slightly more open for the same speed and less acceleration. So I think they are a waste of time...........................
As for glass fibre packing, look for "packing for silencers", You can repack newer silencers by un-riviting the end and stuffing it in between the pierced tube up the middle and the outer skin of the silencer.

With the goldie silencer we have this would be impractical as one would have to cut the end off the silencer stuff it in and then re-weld everything up with no guarantee that it would be any quieter......................................So carry on scaring birds sheep dogs and doggers with gay abandon.
Regards Fred
