What causes the light to come on in the first place?

As I understand it, the temperature parameters in the engine control unit (ECU) are set too close causing the warning light to show, which then needs resetting. But that's as much as I know!

As I understand this - and with the Himalayan too - each time you do a cold start the engine management does a system check - and if the fault is no longer there - the light goes out.
