Does anyone know of a paint which matches exactly the Royal Enfield Chinese Red of the late 1950s?i have seen bikes with various shades of red but this is the shade I would like on my tank.Has anyone a bike in this shade? If so perhaps it could be matched to a colour in a paint suppliers catalogue. Thanks

Rolf if our hosts cannot help then try RS Paints. www.rspaints.com or telephone them on 01707 273219.

Old bike paint colours is what they do, and they do it very well.

Rolf, MM is correct about the good service provided by RS Bike Paint (not rspaints as he wrote by accident, I'm sure,) but there is a snag: Chinese Red is the colour used by Enfield for the Indian models (that's the US Indians,) and RS paints don't list it, even under the Indian section. However, RS are very helpful on the phone so I'd give them a call and see if they have any ideas, the listings you can see are confirmed matches and it may be they already have an idea for this one. I have a project RE Indian Chief and in the course of my research I've heard it suggested that "Chinese Red" as imagined by Enfield is actually Post offfice Red, which is still a standard British colour but I can't confirm this!

Thanks,

I have been looking through Royal Enfield by G May. The 1960 fury is in Chinese Red. The other Indian Enfield colours are Metallic Red or Indian Red. I know what Metallic red looks like but I am not sure about Indian Red.

I will try RS Paints.

When I restored my Fury about 25 years ago which should be chinese red i used bmc tartan red [ use the lighter of the two listed ] its about the nearest i could find , to match the unfaded colour under the tank. If you want to do it the metalic red nearest colour is Honda ruby red pearl r-504 c . I just done a hounds arrow special in that colour and it looks really good
