Hi all new too this forum, i've got a 40's enfield am trying too restore at the moment am told its a 350 co model, just having a look a the gearbox and there's two flat headed screws each side of the outer casing. Does anyone know what the screws are for, inspection holes or are they holding something internal?? And also what grade oil to put back in ?

david,i don,t think that they are inspection holes!! put 20/50 oil in the gearbox thats what a chap i know puts in his co box just a thought which make is it ?albion or the burman or is it burmah ? atb paul.

Thanks alan justed watched the video. Mines a long way looking off that though, someone has changed the forks on it , but am told they should be girder ones.

If it is the screws on the outer cover on the right hand side of the bike, these are simply the screws to hold the cover on and nothing inside will drop in or out.

Hi chevy. No these are alot bigger than the cover screws, there just below the mounting points on the gearbox. One each side, so if the box was in the frame there would be one near the engine, the other facing the rear mudguard.

They are the screws that hold the gear operator part number 'H33' in place (see the hosts on line parts catalogue for model CO). They will be staked so they cant work lose. They dont need to be removed to strip the box but I've replaced them on my boxes as they are nearly always worn.
