Morning all. This is my first post on this forum. I've had my 78 Indian 350 bullet for a few years now and thus far have managed to sort any of the inevitable issues that crop up by following threads on here...and I'm rather embarrassed that I've been stumped by what im sure is a simple fix!

Whilst getting my bike ready for its MOT I noticed the headlight wasnt working. Bulbs were fine so I took the main light switch out of the necelle and found 3 loose wires. I havent been able to find a 6 volt wiring diag anywhere, however through process of elimination managed get all the lights working again...except when the headlight is on main beam and I try to reattach the headlight unit to the rim it shorts and the ammeter flips out to -.

I've clearly connected something back wrong, but can't work out what!!

I would think that there is a bare wire somewhere that shorts out when you present the headlight back in the rim.

Rich, I have a workshop/maintenance manual for early indian 350's and it has a 6v wiring diagram in it.
Email me at:- [email protected] and I will scan and send you a copy of the diagram or for a small donation to "Care for Casualties" and the postage you can have the original (which is also a copy but its complete and served me well for many years)

Hi Rich, welcome to the forum, i had this problem some time ago and it was the connector to the main light in the back off the holder was touching the speedo drive when you put the lens back in the rim. My fault as i had turned the rubber ring around under the speedo to angle the clock more towards the rider. this swings the speedo drive forward a few mil, just enough to catch. The thickest part of the rubber seal has to be closest to the rider,Not much room behind the lens strangly enough. regards gwilly.

Cheers for your responses fellas - and especially your offer of a wiring diagram Eddie, I have managed to get one off a chap locally who used to trail bullets. Anyway, have rectified the issue. On closer and more methodical inspection it seems that it could have been a number of things I initially missed!! like a loose connection in the dip switch, or indeed the back of the bulb holder touching the speedo drive, as well as a couple of other loose connections in the headlight... coming round to the idea that the lights on my bike arent actually powered by witchcraft after all. Thanks again Rich
