A sensible mod is to mount the R/R on the mudguard under the seat so it's not in all the crap from the chain.
The wiring just reaches (or did on mine)

Recently had similar issue with my 2018 Classic C5, RR was first assumption, but on testing alternator, found that to be faulty. Belt and braces fix, I replaced both. Then tested battery and found it was at 50% SOH. It would still start bike after charging, so decent new quality gel battery. Old RR was refitted and found to be ok. I would suggest you check alternator output, I used a meter from ebay for my testing - about a tenner. Hope this is of some help.
