Now that the mornings are starting to feel a bit autumnal, the trusty old steed might not want to know first thing in the morning. An old trick that still works is to warm up the sparking plug. Whip out the plug, and use a blow lamp (if you've got one - if not the gas stove) and warm up the electrolyte end of the plug until it's too hot to touch (but don't go overboard - use your common). Then using gloves screw it back in the bike asap and she'll probably fire up first time. Probably.

I'd want to know why it wouldn't start. Must be something wrong.

Another old trick is to properly set up the engine and use the correct multigrade oil.... My old heap has never been a problem, don't see why it should

Hmmm. The Old Trick advice was given as a quick workaround when it's 6:30am on a cold morning, you need to be at work for 7:30, and the best advice around from the local tyre kickers is to tell you that there's something wrong, and to set it up correctly and change the oil.......
