PETROL TANKS

Has anyone seen or fitted our hosts 50/60's replacement tank, item 92674? My tank had the usual leak develop last year, and although repaired I am getting hints of petrol fumes which make me think it's maybe going again, possibly around the rear bracket which could be hard to seal anyway. My bike is metallic green, a colour not available anywhere either for replacement parts or paint, so I was thinking about how the chrome version of this tank might look....it is smaller though.

I've never seen one but imagine it would look a bit like page 175. Same size capacity, however an extra 160 squids for the side panels (fixing kit) plus vat and delivery it is going to be serious expenditure. Mind have always loved the chrome or polished alloy look on tanks. Do you have to keep with the green? Standard red and chrome tank plus lick of paint on two side panels, look very smart and half the price.

Yes, there's a lot of green to replace on the Electra - guards, side panels, headlamp casquette and of course the tank! Part of the trouble too is, I like the "British Racing Green" so I may check sealing again!

Easy job to repair, just get it welded up,and usually doesn't damage the visible paint, just make sure it is washed out properly. Has to be somebody in Scotland with an oxy kit

Thanks Norm, yes maybe I should be looking at a proper welded repair - a little winter project! Cheers all.

Alex they are so dead easy to weld up, recently I welded 8 of them up and probably took less than an hour to do them. Admittedly it took longer to clean them than weld them but as I had to borrow the oxy to do it I had to make it worth while so I waited till I had the 8 sitting here and clean
