Himalayan cat

Why have they changed the ugly bulge which I assume is the cat to the down pipe ?
Is this only on the euro 5 engine and has this engine been strangled a bit to meet this standard.

The Euro 4 had the same CAT, but it was farther from the engine in the horizontal part of the pipe. Probably meant it ran too cold to be as effective as it should be. In terms of strangle, I doubt that it made a difference.

It's a very free flowing engine, but with detuned cam profiles and fuel maps.
