I am just converting a left shift Albion to right shift and I am looking at the Hitchcocks kit and it includes a new gear operator fork. I can't see any differance from the original left shift one and I can't remember if I have changed it on previous gearboxes I have converted. Anybody know for sure

Hi Norm. It must be the same as the bell crank and sliding gear are unchanged. i would replace it purely to iradicate any wear that may be present on the fork and stud surfaces. gwilly

Thanks Gwilly. I couldn't see how it could be different but I couldn't remember if I had changed them before. My reluctance to change it comes from the fact the bike has only done 4,000 ks and is in mint condition and the most dreaded bit is the grease in the box. Boxes with oil no hesitation to pull to bits but that grease is something else

Hi Alan,
It's not my bike, I'm doing it for a friend and he said he wanted the old bits back, but feel better about the fact I won't help you because you need a left shift gearbox housing. These have a boss on the back of the box to take the crossover shaft, which you could possibly make one to attatch to the rear lower gearbox bolts . Certainly can be done and I will ask him to see if he wants to get rid of it. I also have another one here I pulled out some time back but I think the onlu useable bits from that still here are the inner and outer gearbox covers. The linkages have been ratted for other things

Hi Alan,
Sorry, it gets worse, you woild also need to make up and weld to the frame the 2 sleves for the rear brake crossover shaft to get the brake on the right hand side. Again not too daunting but just another issue

Alan,
I have taken some pics of the areas but will have to wait till my son comes over so I can send them. I'll let my mate know you are interested in the bits and give him your email address
