Relay gone bonkers...

Hi.

After a couple of trouble free years since my last appearance here, I have a new problem. Can't imagine its particularly complex for those more able than me...

Tried to start my 2013 Electra Efi today and it wouldn't have it. All I got was a crazy clicking from a little relay marked Coil 110 and 1646. It hangs under the saddle, top left of the battery.

The bike was working fine a week or so back after its last outing.

Is it likely that this relay has failed and is the cause of the bike not starting, or is it the manifestation of something further down the line?

Any advice would be really helpful.

Thanks folks.

Battery is flat, this will make the relay click like crazy as you try to start the bike with the electric starter.

Cheers Haggis.

I bet this barbarically cold weather has finally put kaibosh on what was left of a particularly cheap and cheerless battery-too far gone to respond to the kickstarter. Will stick it on charge and see if I can revive it.

Thanks.

All the best.

I agree, my Honda CB750 doesn’t get used much and it will happen if the battery isn’t fully charged.

The relay engages without much current but once the load of the engine comes in the battery voltage drops so that the relay disengages. Then the starter drops out, the relay closes again, rinse and repeat.
