Hi , when crusing at 55-60ish the engine on my himilayan has a quite distinct rattle note to the engine. It runs fine and has just had a service without comment after a road test so it may be quite normal.
Any one have the same.

Are you sure it’s engine and not resonance?

Can you get to the same speed in 4th and see.

Its definitely engine and its rev based so tends to be worse under load , its not terrible but rather its unpleasant and sounds like an old bike I had the would have bad pinking under load

It's hard to determine what you are hearing on a forum, but including my own bike I've ridden another three, and they all have a distinctive "engine" noise under power once you get up the rev range, especially under load up hills. I have learned to ignore it. I know someone who made such a fuss about this noise, they got the bike replaced, and guess what ? The replacement wasn't any better. There's a host of different potential causes, induction noise, resonance etc etc. I've got so used to it I don't notice it any more, and as the miles pile up, it hasn't got any worse.

Yeah I'm sure you're right, I will ignore it,
I find 60 is about the best A road crusing speed
And it is sweet at 45-50 on B roads. Guess thats what they're built for. I want to do a uk tour next year about 800 miles or so so hope it will be up to it. Since I've had it my BMW GS has sat in the garage!!

Hi
Mad as it may sound, try taking the windshield off and see if the clatter/noise/my engine definately has a death rattle/ racket goes away..
It did the trick on mine..after it drove me mad for 6months..
I have tried re-fitting it with a series of different monting rubbers/bolts/torques but so far i cant get rid of it..
What i do have now tho is peace of mind..Engine is fine.!
Good luck, i think you may well have success. Let us know how you get on please.

I've done a couple of 500+ mile day rides without any problems on A and B roads, which is where the Himalayan thrives, especially once you get North of Inverness.

I agree with Ali, a windshield/ windscreen will amplify engine noise; it will be quieter without one, although I would never have ridden without one on my bikes, as they kept a lot of filth off my face and clothes. Particularly useful when riding in rain.

Coincidentally, having been without a screen for about 18 months or so, I replaced the one on my 350 Electra last week. I rode the bike for the first time yesterday and noticed how much more noisy the engine seemed to be. I soon got used to it and gave the bike its usual 100 mile workout.

Hi again
Just for clarity..
On mine, its definately the screen vibrating thats the annoying and very audible noise.
I know this for sure as you can alter/remove the noise by taking hold of the screen as it vibrates.
As i have said already, still looking for the remedy , other than leaving the screen in the garage..

If anyone does have the answer to eliminating the windscreen rattling by means other than that, please post details.
