I am finally getting around to having the engine rebuilt on my 2007 iron barrel. To save money I will remove the engine myself and send it to someone who knows what they are doing. I can see I will need a clutch puller tool but am I right in thinking there are no other special tools needed to drop the engine out. I will not be breaking the engine down at all apart from removing the carb and gearbox. Thanks in advance.

None required. You would need a huge tube-spanner to remove the gearbox sprocket nut.

It's not necessary in order to remove the engine because you can leavethe gearbox sprocket in place but it might be worth replacing while you have the primary off unless it is in very good condition to delay having to strip the primary drive down again later on.

Thank Stinkwheel, I thought as much. I will get an order in with our hosts for the clutch puller and get on with it. Haven't got my usual excuses with covid having killed off my career. Every cloud and all that...

If you’re in no great hurry, I’d hold fire on buying a clutch puller to see if you actually need one. I changed the gearbox on my 350 and once the hub nut was removed, the hub slid off the shaft without much trouble.
