1959 alternator replacement.

Posted: Fri Aug 14, 2020 10:50 am
The alternator on my 1959 constellation has had its day and I need advice regarding the best replacement stator and rotor.
The rotor on mine is the 3.25 inch with a corresponding stator.
I am confused by the number of stators and rotors available and their compatability. I would appreciate advice regarding this. I am aware that later rotors are of smaller diameter so presumably the stators reflect this. Will these alternator fit my Connie without modification?
Any advice gratefully received.

Talk to Hitchcock's, they'll know.

What Pete said. I uprated my 500 Bullet to a higher output version. Hitchcocks were great at giving advice...

My Super Meteor runs a RM20 WW10105 and RM21 WW10109 Lucas pairing, work fine. There's a high spec version of the two wire stator too, Lucas part number WW10190.
Good availability too.

If you're on the original 6V wiring, pair the RM20 rotor with the RM19 3 single phase wire stator. The RM19 can also be wired to full output for 12V use, or you could just use the RM21 as above. The RM23 or 24alternators are available if you want lots of 3 phase power. with a new reg/rectifier - if you haven't added lots of electrical accessories the RM19 or 21 will be perfectly adequate. Depending on the size of the original stator you might also need an adapter ring as listed by our hosts.
