Could anyone tell me what this is. It doesn't replace the rectifier or voltage regulator as they're still fitted....................

Easy! It says "Multilink converter unit part. no. 9160130" on the cover......

What is it good for, or what does it do? No idea!

Google doesn't help much here. That little "twin peaks" logo looks a little similar to Motorola, but I don't think it is the same.

Seems to go at least 7 cables into it. Where do they come from? That light gray part at the bottom, is that a connector? If so, what does it look like?
Do you have electronic ignition? Could it be a connector for some sort of a diagnosis tool?

Have you tried removing it? Does the bike behave normally without it?

Give us some more info, maybe we can help?

Converters are usually devices that "convert" DC to AC or raise the DC voltage level (note going from AC to DC or lowering voltage is easy) ....don't know what it's for though especially as bike model not mentioned.

Sorry for not giving enough info. The bike is a 2003 500cc es classic, although the es bits have been removed. Before I owned the bike all the electrics were moved into the tool box. To trace where the wires go I will have to remove the seat and tank which will be my next task if no one knows what it is..............thank you for your replies.....Keith.

Forgot to add. The bike does have electronic ignition but that's pazon fitted by me so nothing to do with that.

Found a coloured Snidal cct on the web. It shows a device he calls a "Starter Cutout" and has the same coloured wires as appears to go to your converter unit. The yellow and orange from the AC lighting coils from the alternator feed to it (the cct also shows the AC regulator that feeds the headlight coming off of the yellow and orange) So if Snidal is right with his description the device could function as some kind of safety device to ensure the starter motor is not engaged after the engine has fired up to prevent high speed engagement when it is receiving AC from the alternator. I reckon this is how it might work but the decription "converter" seems wrong.

Hello,
I also have something similar on my bike. I ride a 2000 model 500 Classic. My part is black and has "12v Rectifier" written on it and of course "Multilink". My bike has seperate regulator and rectifier units next to it, the aluminium type. I am confused. Has anyone else the same fitments?
