Hopefully will be putting my engine back in the frame in the not too distant future as starting to build it up, finally!

Do you fit the engine/gearbox with gearbox hangers bolted to the assembly or do you fit the hangers after the engine/gearbox assembly is fitted? The frame as really clamped up where the hangers fit so guess I will have sprag it out a bit to allow them to fit?

Also, which side is it best to tackle it from, manual shows going in from the primary side, I think as the manual photos are really bad!

Any top tips appreciated!! :-)

I usually fit the engine bottom end and gearbox as a complete assembly with the rear engine plate, centre stand and springs already fitted, then the front engine plates. Sorry I have not had anyone to photograph me at the time. I gather other methods are possible.

Have some ratchet straps to hand, the frame will not just line up on it's own and will need persuading. An assistant is very handy as well.

I struggled with my iron barrel engine when I changed the gearbox for a 5 speed. I couldn’t get it to line up so I eventually resorted to hanging the engine on a strap from my engine hoist. It was either me or the engine.....

Figured out that if on centre stand and you place blocks under the rear wheel it will align the frame so the long bolt can just side out and the alignment of the bore is maintained. Have tapped a wooden wedge between the frame tubes to open the gaps a bit where the gearbox hangers fit, so far so good!!!!
