Folks
On my 04 Classic 500 the indicators 'arms' are huge, is there any way (apart from purchasing new) of shortening them that anyone has done so far ?
Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,
I have 2x 500 classics, from 2000 and 2007. I have done the same to both of them. This is at the back; you didn't say if you mean front or back. The original fitting of the arms is to the very flimsy sheet metal of the numberplate backing. I brought mine "inboard" somewhat, screwing them to the more solid "box" for want of a better description between the number plate and the mudguard. I used a bit of rubber i made up to be a bit flexible... like a washer between the arm and "box" it makes it a touch longer too. Not vital. Just measure it all before you start to be sure that it WILL be long enough. I am VERY pleased with the result on mine; it is stronger and a lot less likely to be knocked anyway. Good luck, Chris

Forgot to say that the way i did it means taking the "box" assembly off the mudguard so you can put the big nut inside. I did NOT use the bent metal bracket for anything, just the arm straight into the box. C

Hi Alan, tried to find your link but I'm a bit c£&p at computers. The way i described is also quite nice as there are no exposed wires... they go straight in. Chris

Scary!! How did Grunda know that??? Is there a camera in my garage??? Off out to check after I've sent this... Actually it's exactly as he says; grind off tidily and paint. Just had a look to remind myself and there's a little, neat square left on each side of the back of the number plate. Almost covered, in fact, by the newly positioned arm. On my other bike, the metal broke off leaving a rough hole; I drilled it to a nice round one, painted the edges of the hole and put a rubber blanking plug in which looks tidy but not very noticeable. Do check before you start,by the way, with an easy measurement, that the lights won't foul the number plate as they are now much more inboard. I seem to remember that I took off just 1/4" each side ofthe yellow number plate and it all went together just right. C.
