Were all familiar with the engine number stamped into the upper front left crankcase, starting G2/xxxxx. I was in the workshop earlier and needed to move one of the bullet engines out of the way. In doing so I shifted a bit of the workshop dust/crud off the back of the right hand crankcase at the top where the front top of the gearbox would connect. There I found a second G2/xxxxx number - different to the first! The front stamping shows these cases to be a matched pair - So what is this second, not so visible number?

If its like some other enfields the numbers on the left below cylinder are stamped on when engine is matched to frame, the rear stamp is the actual engine production number.
