looking at fitting a rectifier/regulator from a honda cd175 as a replacement for a selenium/zenner set up, as i am building the bike up from a basket case, it doesn't have any electrics other than a new 6 volt lucas alternator, any any advise would be great!!

Are you using negative earth?

If so, Honda use predictable wire colours. Charging phases to the yellow and pink wires. Green to earth. Red to battery.

If you're going from scratch, why not make it 12V? You can get 12V single phase reg/recs for C90s for sweetie money.

To be honest I would convert to 12v
It makes it easier to get every day items (battery's coils bulbs etc)
You maybe able to use your alternator

CD175 blast from the past that one
Some CD175 could be converted to 12v just by changing the battery and bulbs on some you had to change the coils as well

thanks for the advice, i will stick to 6 volt as i have loads of 6v bulbs, and with just daytime riding, mag ignition i will stop with standard, looking at the honda bits now! regards d

Maybe you already have a 6v reg/rec hanging about but if you're sourcing one, why a CD175? They are getting really long in the tooth these days.

You can get brand new 6V reg/recs...

hello well! it was only that a mate suggested that model, although i have seen other makes that seem to fit the description on e bay, will it get hot? like a zenner diode? and where is the best place to fit it on the connie? d

They get hot but not very hot. They usually have plenty of cooling built in already. You wouldn't want to bolt it to anything that was hot already but no need to have them hanging out in the breeze. I attached the reg/recs on my bullets to the front facing part of the rear mudguard, between the toolboxes. They will cheerfully mount them underneath bodywork on Japanese bikes.

The boyer ones out hosts do don't even seem to need to have cooling vanes, maybe they heat-sink to the box. Or maybe they are a switch-mode (mosfet) type which generate much less heat than the zennor based ones.

Get a Tympanium rectifier zener box and go 12v. Did all that on My1966 Interceptor Custom along with a podtronics alternator 1 rewound magneto and 400 mile days are no problem.
