Hi there, no haven't found the cause of the rattle and have explored pretty much every avenue without success. My plan is to ride it until it reveals itself in a suitably dramatic fashion. The bike is in daily use (fine weather) so as soon as I have more info you can rely on my posting it here first thing and please let me know if you diagnose it first.

My issue is very intermittent so 99% of the time my motor is quiet and smooth. If yours is noisy all the time then hopefully you will be able to discover what is causing the clatter. I did have a thought that it might be due to the steel ends of the pushrods coming loose when the motor is warm but it isn't something I've actually looked at yet. I'm really looking forward to solving it as I've nailed all the other issues of the bike one by one and apart from this the bike is a winner. I've actually just taken possession of a Pazon regulator rectifier to by pass the silly old stepped charging system that tends to boil the battery dry and then blow bulbs.

My 2000 Bullet also had a rattle; the mechanic eventually traced it
to the Samrat rockers; he replaced them with the standard ones
and the noise went away. That taught me not to replace things which weren`t broken.

Ahhh if only I possessed such wisdom! Still I often find interesting lessons in righting my mistakes.
