Think I had it wrong on which plug does what on the AVI engine, the front plug is the timing case and slow sump drain, the gauze protecting the return side of the pump , the middle one is the plug to drain the feed circuit with the gauze protecting the feed side of the pump and when I did it it seemed to empty the oil tank and sump at the same time (aka a lot of oil came out) and the third one is the tank plug (no gauze), when I took this one out nothing other than sludge (but there was oil on the dipstick before I started) . Does make sense if I have a leak between the oil tank and sump, I think???? Will find out more when my timing pinion extractor arrives and I can split the casings, summit ain't right!
I am thinking there is clearly a leak and has been for a while, but does follow that it has been getting progressively worse to the point the oil tank and sump are almost one!
