Hi all, there must be someone on here who can answer the following. On the drive side main bearings. does the open end of both the roller cages face the casing or the flywheel. Or does the outer cage face the case and the inner face the flywheel. The same with the timing side does open end of the cage face the flywheel or the case. I did make notes when I dismantled them  but I think the note book has been slung with some rubbish.

Dont really know, but i would fit bearings with the open side facing the place where the oil comes from, hope someone can give you a dead set answer.

Hi Senator - From the diagrams in the 'official' workshop manual it looks to me like the open sides face inwards. That appears to be the case for all three bearings. Got to say though that the diagrams are not too clever, and there is nothing in the narrative about it. Have a look at the on-line parts diagrams on this web site, they may help but again they are pretty poor.

If all else fails give our hosts a call - I've ALWAYS found them really helpful.

Cheers

Thanks Riggers,

I will ask our hosts as the variations on how they should fit from this and other sites goes from one extreme to the other.
