The engine continues.
The crankcase is together using Hylomar which worked really well.
The crank was free and returned to top dead centre easily.

I have put the inside primary case on and the drive gear. When I turn the gear it is not as free as before because of the oil seal, although it turns quite easily by hand, although not returning to top dead centre by itself. Is that ok or should I be doing something with oil seal.

What you describe sounds fine to me.

Sounds like the oil seal is just doing its job. If it's not in contact all the way round its inner edge and therefore rubbing slightly, it won't be sealing.
