Meteor minor 500 upgrades

Hello,it restoring a 63 meteor sports 500,I have to open the engine.Can I consider any options for engine performance upgrades,money is a consideration.The short stroke engine still seems like the best option.The parts catalogue only goes to 61.I know i will have to replace bottom engine components.
