' 86 350. I'm trying to separate the gearbox halves- the gasket is leaking , its a long story. Theyare stubborn. I've done it before years ago. remind me, does the position of the kickstarter shaft make a difference? ie. do I need to make sure the pawl is retracted? I have undone all the bolts and screws including the mainsheet -end left hander. I get some movement pulling them apart but I suspect its the kickstarter/layshaft end that's the problem.
Technical notes are not showing up at present!

Hi, dont forget the nut and washer on the selector plunger, the case will not separate withthem in position. Vince

Thanks Vince, I think that could be the problem. My memory is that you should not disturb the plunger nut and the plunger comes away with the case. Years since I did the job, maybe I have misremembered.
