Just a quickie to see peoples opinion on this one.
Have stripped the old front tyre off, (and boy was that thing reluctant to move, I think it was fitted by Noah inc it was that old), the front rim, much like the rear had a fair whack of corrosion inside, (not structurally problematic but me being me, had to be cleaned before fitting the new tape, tube and tyre, (why, incidentally, do people not change the rim tape when changing a tyre, the things cost about £3!, i've changed a few tyres recently where gaffer tape has been used in place of a rim tape, (probably cost more in gaffer tape), and a couple that have had electricians tape reinforcing what is clearly a very old and knackered rim tape.
Anyhow, digressing there, I've had at the rim with a rotary wire brush and gotten the crud and whatever paintlike coating that remained, off.
I'm going to give it a coat but was wondering what peoples opinion were on bog basic primer versus a clearcoat, (i have rattle cans of both to hand and was thinking a clearcoat as I can see any future corrosion appearing under it early when I do future tyre changes.
What do others think?
