I'm wondering if this most interesting topic will go to a fourth page?

Oh no! Not oil.
I'd prefer to discuss ratchet straps, what they are and what they are used for
eg keeping bike on trailer when it was going to Liverpool

Useful things, ratchet straps but it's taken all the skill out of tying down.
Who still remembers how to tie a lorryman's hitch?

I learned how to rope wagon loads 40 years ago, still did the occasional rope & sheet load up to the time I finally quit driving.
Even now I rope down my trailer when loaded with tree prunings for the recycling place.
But for conveying bikes I will only use ratchet straps.

Depends on how much you value your straps. I wouldn't use anything less than fully synthetic. You need a good lubricant in the extreme conditions experienced in those ratchet rollers, especially at anything over 15000 revs.
