Hi Norm,

with what B.W. mentions about the Super Meteor, coupled with what you and Pete F have said it sounds like you need to get a bit more go-juice in the inlet tract at kick-over revs than the carb will readily provide, hence the easy-start needed as a fuel substitute. May I suggest a possible solution?

I don't know how much room you have with the tinware (tool box/air filter housing, etc), but step forward the Dell'Orto PHF32 carburettor, with which some Electra-X (sorry, didn't mean to swear) owners here will be familiar from the Watsonian-Squire go-faster kit. This carby not only has a more modern cold start arrangement but also has an accelerator pump which squirts extra fuel in when you pull the twist-grip back. An easy way to prime the engine for starting, yes? Also available in 30, 34 and 36mm sizes. You can even get a Malossi mounting rubber to fit inlet tracts with 2"/50.8mm centre mounting studs, which makes it viable as an Amal replacement.

Worth considering?

Norm,

I forgot to mention I have a spare PHF32 kicking around on the bench you could have for the cost of postage. I can at least take some measurements with the flange mounting fitted and you could see if it might fit, if you're interested.

Thanks for the offer Adrian, I would be surprised if it would clear the SR2 mag and as it is it is very difficult to even get the concentric off the manifold without pulling the toolbox back out of the way. It should fit the Inter because it is fitted with Pazon ignition but I would like to keep the Monoblock just for looks sake. As for that dirty Electra word my old Crossbred Electra/Cast Iron just won't go away, I have sold it twice in the last while and each time it ends back on the market after a few weeks, got me buggered because it is a good bike and it has done about 25,000ks since I did the motor conversions. The only reason I ended up selling it was because the registration was costing about $500 when I can register anything over 25 years old for $73. Full reg on my Inter would be $700
