John.... Just to make sure this answer of yours does not get forgotten by you....you said: "Hi Les, I don't know how you are doing your calculations but they are wrong. If you think about it, for a given crankshaft throw(stroke)the piston must travel the same ammount, up/down, no matter what the con.rod length is. So timing measurements ,whether linear or angular,are independant of con.rod length...THIS is why I replied with my lengthy answer!.....Your £100 challenge is very odd ......I just wonder if you are having a laugh John or could it be more serious?

Hi Les, I'm serious. This is fundamental. As I said ALL linear/angular are with respect to(wrt) TDC. Change con. rod length and these don't change. If you want to cover the bet, fine. If not I think you should drop it.

Hi Les, I have to admit that I was wrong. I have done the calculations and a piston does not follow a pure sinewave. This effect is small and a 1% change in a Bullets con rod will change the timing by less than 0.1deg at 32deg BTDC when using the linear method of timing. Although this was not my wager, I'm happy to send £100 to a charity of your choice.
