PeteF, due to losing the "feed back" in my hands I have had to use torque wrenches for years for every nut I tighten up, and even fitting a new spark plug this morning.

Then yours is rather a special case Papa.
No disrespect intended.

PeteF,

you might just want to sit down and relax with an adult beverage.

Meanwhile I hereby do solemnly promise and affirm that this is my last ever post on this forum about Electra-X exhaust flange nuts. Life is too short.

jefrs,

stainless steel nuts work just ***FINE***. I occasionally swap between low and high-level exhausts on my AVL hybrid and the stainless M8 nuts stay put when I do 'em up with an ordinary socket and come undone without fuss when I undo 'em. They don't go rusty. Nut heaven!!! (Now there's a phrase I didn't think I'd be using whenv I woke up this morning.)

By contrast I took the exhaust off my Electra-X a couple of days ago. It hadn't been disturbed in a long time, not only were the OEM nuts were rusted solid onto the studs, which came out with them, but one of them had rusted away to the extent that the correct socket no longer fitted (fortunately it had rusted away evenly enough for a 3/16"W socket to fit).

Actually PeteF losing the feed back in fingers and hands is more common that you think. Especially with advancing age.

Sorry if my post is a bit out of sequence following Papasmurf's and PeteF's exchange, this is due to the forum's "time out" kicking in and causing me to have to re-type. I'll go and do something else now. A.

Wouldn't use coppereze, copper-slip or anything with copper in it between aluminium and steel. Tri-metallic reaction occurs, and the aluminium always looses.

Could someone explain what, if anything, is this tri-metallic thingy?
I always fit spark plugs with copperslip so that is a three metal jobby - ally head, copper lube & ferrous plug.
Just curious :)

Ooh no not an iron cylinder, a copper gasket and an alloy head, who thought that stupid combination up?, just a moment though they have been like that for years, must check my heads to see if they have rotted away yet.

No just checked my oldest has been like that for 60 years and still OK.
