Hi again dirt gurus - I’ve decided to go with the 330mm shocks. Can you send suggestions for protecting the top of the swinging arm from the chain? Any pictures and links to sellers would be gratefully received.

The chain did rub on the swingarm at the end nearest the engine, so I made a plastic rubbing strip as on a modern dirt bike.
Philip, can you post a picture of the rubbing strip and details of how you made it? I'll need to do something similar.

Not actually fitted one to an enfield but you can buy a "chain runner" for a pitbike for less than a fiver. I'd imagine that would do the trick. I think I'd be going for a combination of double-sided sticky pads (try 3M VHB pads, they stick cameras to F1 cars with those) and cable ties for fitting.

Good idea on the double sided tape. I think zip ties would get sliced up pretty quickly unless the slider was thick enough for them to go through it. I might get one to try if they're cheap enough.

Sorry for the late reply. I 3D printed the rubbing block from a plastic called ABS. It has got two grooves worn in it now from the chain. Nylon or Acetal would have been better materials. I will try to upload a picture. Hope this helps.
Philip.

It will wear two grooves quite quickly until the chain has worn it down to the rollers, then the wear will slow down
Just like primary chain tensioner's
Hope this helps Dai

A high-tec solution that I don't have, sadly.

How did you fix it?

Dai I think you are right the wear seems to have slowed down. To answer your question Stuart well I'm just keeping an eye on it.
I would like to fit a front disc brake next, anyone tried it?
Philip.

After a great deal of pissing about with other ideas, I fitted a set of Electra X fork lowers to my 612 bullet road bike (2004 500 bullet based) complete with wheel, spindle and disc brake assembly. They fitted onto the existing bullet stanchions/damper rods.

Mudguard fitment is different but I was using alloy mudguards so I made up a fork brace/mudguard bracket. I think the speedo drive is also slightly different. You can't use fork shrouds with this setup.

If you're going with a full trials setup, you'd need a 21" rim building onto a disc brake hub anyway. You'd also probably want the tubular type mudguard stays that loop forwards and back .

Here's my setup:

The ally mudguard was still flapping a fair bit so I've since added some small stays front and rear made from very stiff 4mm stainless wire clamped on with small pipe clips, a bit like bicycle mudguard stays. Again though, for trails work, you'd probably want the "loop" type made from bent 10mm tube.
