I scooped out clearance for the inlet cam on my 612 build, with a small cutter in an electric drill – very carefully! As you found out, Stinkwheel, it leaves precious little left of the seal boss at the peak point. In fact, I broke through to the seal by a very small amount. However, it has had no ill effect whatsoever, in 8000km of running (doesn’t wet-sump at all, even if left for a month, so no issue with the seal). Although it remained a snug fit in the boss, I gave the seal a light smear of low-grade Loctite for peace of mind.

From Alan R "has anyone tried actually reducing the cams' lift ( In order to make it fit more easily ) and relying more on the overlap for power increase ??" A reasonable question, but what about reducing the base circle of the cam? The lobe could be lower, but the overall lift would stay the same? Just asking...........
