Hi BARRY_Q.....Well done matey !!....If the truth be known I bet the majority of us on this forum ( and others, no doubt ) would prefer to "wrestle" with seized pistons, wobbly wheels or graunchy gearboxes rather than sort out anything to do with E-Lec-trickery !!...I know I would LoL !!----Respect !!

While you mention a working tacho, does anyone have a wiring diagram for the tacho or know which wire out of that clock goes where ? My wiring got trashed by would be bike thieves and I never knew which wire was which coming out of the tacho/fuel gague. (I gave up on the ammeter and got a voltmeter).

Even though I have a wiring diagram for the Lightning. It's next to useless. It shows what wires go into the binnacle, but not what those wires do. At best, this is a guess for the fuel gauge. Red/White sends +volts to the fuel gauge. White/Yellow takes that +volts and sends it to the sender unit. The black wire is Earth. I've no idea how the tacho works.

thanks Barry, at least that pins down three wires. That is far less options for getting it wrong if I do get foolish enough to have a go at making the tacho work.

The only additional thing worth mentioning is: The connectors inside the headlight are colour coded. So a blue plug fits a blue socket. A white plug fits a white socket, etc. The colour of the wires for the plug should be the same as the socket. As mentioned before; Since you can't see where the wires terminate inside the tacho. Their function is guesswork. I've yet to figure out the principle of how the tacho works (Normally, electronic tacho's counts the pulses from the coil). The tacho on the Lightning doesn't seem to fit this. I'm still baffled!
