Way back in the 60's I had those chrome springs on my A10 which was fitted with swept back pipes and Goldie silencers. The theory was they prevented blueing by increasing cooling and stopped you getting burnt against the hottest part of the exhaust should you brush against it with hand or leg. The reality was we fitted them because they looked good and covered the discoloured and often rusty headers. They also rattled against the pipes and wore away the chrome plating leaving spring shaped rust marks. My feeling is get the carburation correct, the timing right and ride on, if it still blues accept it as part of the character of these bikes
