Sadly I don't have a lathe but would love one! It's turns out our hosts did send out the wrong size guides anyway so a new set have been ordered as one may still be OK as only one had been sliding in its hole possibly due to getting too hot. I would guess when in use the engine must get hotter than 150 degrees though? The engineer should hopefully have the gear and skills to fit them and the new valves once I get the correct parts. I did ask for .020"???? H

Hi Harvey, when they all get hot together they all expand so don't come loose, that's why you need to get the guide in fast before heat transfer from the head expands it. Good luck with it,

Talking of lathes, I have on occasion knurled phosphor bronze valve guides on their O.D., to make them a tighter fit, with no ill effects, even under racing conditions - bad engineering practise to some, perhaps, but it worked !
