PeteF, the sort that had a Meccano set as a kid, the sort that can make tools and design and fabricate parts. Taught by master-toolmaker and worked with the workshop machinists, mechanics and fitters designing and building stuff. College the hard way by day release and night school (Reading), too many qualifications, physicist-engineer. And yes I've had to teach post-grads how to use a screwdriver ;)

Try two sprockets not one. I went up two sprockets on my Electra when I had to replace the sprag clutch. I do not think one sprocket is enough of a change to make a real difference. Two sprockets effectively makes 4th gear approximately the same ratio as 5th gear so you can imagine the change. It gives easy cruising revs above 60 in 5th. It does not improve top speed (except downhill of course!) but neither did it seem to worsen performance as you can always change down. Pulling away in first gear is still fine it seemed to make no noticeable change. So before you decide what to do think about the ratio change you want.
