Once all has cooled to ambient, the old race can drop back into the case...

They are out! Just in case anyone else has the same problem,,, heat the case in stages 100, 175, 250C for about 20 minutes. using a small screwdriver or similar give the race a coupe of sharp taps on the leading edge. Then using something suitable spray cold water on the bearing race- I used a garden type trigger spray. Then give it a good slap on your flat surface.

dan1612, glad to hear of your success, I was going to suggest freezer spray but that is a tad expensive.
