Norm, won't be able to get back to the bike until tomorrow - work seems to be more important (or so my wife thinks so). Will let you know how it goes. Get well and back on your bike.

still trying to get the adjustor (striker) plate in the right position, but don't seem to be getting anywhere. the outer ratchet just seems to slide over the teeth on the inner ratchet. will occasionally get into 1st gear, but not with any consistency. it seems like every time I get it to work a bit, I put the cover on, fire it up and then try to shift into gear and nothing happens. is the position of the foot control lever crucial?, as I have tried various positions and it doesn't seem to matter. trying to stay positive

Dean, no point in putting it back together and going to the trouble of starting it if rou can see the ratchet not picking up the ratchet outer and moving it. Do you have the two springs fitted correctly and the foot control lever fitted correctly in between the big spring?

it appears that the twp springs are installed properly and the foot control is inside the bottom of the larger spring. the mechanism moves at it should, but doesn't catch on the teeth of the inner ratchet. are you aware of any videos out there showing the process?

I can run through all the gears by use of the neutral finder lever on the control arm, but the ratcheting mechanism still won't work.

Dean,
the problem is obviously in the ratchet mechanism setup and as I can't see it it is hard to see what is wrong so I can't help much but there is only a few bits in there couple of springs and a couple of plates. On a few occasions I have had to build up a tooth on the ratchet to get it to select one gear in particular but that didn't stop it selecting other gears from memory

can I post a video on this site? if so, would take a video of the issue and post it. otherwise I may be able to post a video on you-tube if you would be interested in taking the time to view.

Dean,
I'm interested in looking if I can find the utube vid and work out how to open it, sometimes I can sometimes I can't

Norm, thanks for all your comments. The problem turned out to be within the left hand linkage - I had the bike on a lift all winter doing the engine rebuild and the lift damaged the linkage as it passes under the bike. Still working on the linkage, but hope to be on the road by the weekend. Hope all is well.
Your friend, Dean

Dean,
Glad to hear it is working but the problem with the left linkage will always be there. They weren't much good new and age doesn't make them get better
