Hi Chris & Rado53 I knew there would be a few things that I forgot about and also knew I would get to find out on here. I would say though that these items are exceptions that it is only from public pressure and government fear, they have been left in the imperial standard. Of course old imperial sizes CAN be bought but this is to satisfy renovation work rather than new work so in my opinion does not count. I would say 99.9% of new products manufactured in this country comply with metric sizes and EC standards. BTW. I thought timber sheeting was sold in 2400 x 1200mm sheets? The TV sizes would also apply to TV's sold all around the world to comply with US measurements. I agree with Riggers that the Imperial sizes and distances and units relate to strongly to human beings and therefore seem so much more easy to visulize, whereas metric units are just numbers that you have to get used to. The magic ton or 100MPH really is a naturally occuring energy "barrier" due to wind pressure making speeds in excess require so much more energy, where as 100KPH (62.5MPH) is not particularly a difficult speed to exceed. The world makes sense with imperial I think, but ultimately dividing by ten is a simple process.

Very good Pwayman....yes...funny how one DAY is one day AND a night...we should have another name for the period when the sun is above the horizon really, and use "night" for the other period as we already do....any suggestions?.... then one day is the combination of both terms.

Sorry for going of course on your thread Alan, but coming back to your Km speedo. I would simply put a red dot or use Dynotape at the equivalent speed position for 30 and 70 or all the decimal speeds in between such 10/20/30/40/50/60/70....no need for any higher than 70.

I'll mention this for what it's worth. When I was in the process of getting my imported Lightning Registered, the speedo was marked with bits of tape for 30, 50 and 70mph. The bike passed the MOT. When I had to take the bike to the local DVLA office, the speedo was fitted with a Motrax speedo converter and Miles and MPH stickers were on the glass. There were no problems. Take your pick from that.

Hi---that's not a problem LES...My usage of the 24hr clock stems from time in HM--RN. I just had a quick look at Wikipedia--24hr clock and have lifted this from it }------------ "While the 24-hour notation unambiguously distinguishes between midnight at the start (00:00) and end (24:00) of any given date, there is no commonly accepted distinction among users of the 12-hour notation. Style guides and military communication regulations in some English-speaking countries discourage the use of 24:00 even in the 24-hour notation, and recommend reporting times near midnight as 23:59 or 00:01 instead.[6] Sometimes the use of 00:00 is also avoided.[6]"-----------Apparently some railway timetables show, say 24.00Hrs for an arriving train( being at the end of a day), but 00.00Hrs. for a departing train ( being at the start of a day!!).......It never ceases to amaze me just how many different subjects crop up when answers to any one given question are being put forth. Apart from the physical distances involved, this forum really is just like a group of "Senior" Gentlemen sitting around a Pub table---putting the motorcycling world to rights ----myself included !! OK---so who's in the chair ?? Mine's a half of Mild and some pork scratchings (not "Itchings"---as 'er indoors seems to think.).
