Norm, not a good idea to use a wire brush bristle (or so I was always taught) I bristle from a painbrush is a more the thing to use.

((Quote It may sound stupid but how do you usually clean a carb??soak it in petrol, blow compressed air??)) I Would use a good carburettor cleaning spray as its designed to Dissolve the gum and lacquer deposits left by the awful crap they put in petrol these days.

---------- or you can send me your carb and I will put it through my ULTRASONIC CLEANER & 100psi reverse AIR BLAST for FREE ( You just pay for the P & P ). This applies only to forum members and for 1 carb per member. There's no catch--it's NOT a scam etc. I'll also give the bodywork a bit of a brush-up as well. You send me the carb FULLY STRIPPED and in re-useable packing. I send it back---CLEANED and fully stripped. ie no other work is done. I'm happy to send overseas BUT it will be in the packing that it came in. I will replace like-for-like in the event of any damage, loss etc. whilst in my workshops. Return postage will be by Collect Plus Courier that has TRAKing and £50 insurance as standard, and costs £4.99 up to 5Kg. ---------------hope this is of some help ??
