But why? When a standard clutch will take the 5 plate conversion would you want to go for a five speed type clutch with a four speed box? Just asking. ;-)

Seems got it wrong a second time. This simple question seems to be tripping up some of us. Apologies

Pay attention, 007! (Let's see if that is too much temptation for someone to resist...)

It's all too easy to mis-read something, then wade in and bash out our best reply based on what we THINK we've read, not what the original post actually said. (Welcome to MY world, if it's any consolation.)

Remember the old-fashioned comprehension tests at school? For the same question to be mis-read three times by only two people might be a record for this forum, though...

FOR ANYBODY STILL STRUGGLING WITH THIS:

1. Goff has a 2006 5 speed Thunderbird;

2. It needs a complete new clutch;

3. It has a 5 speed gearbox so it needs to be a 5 speed clutch;

4. The old and now presumably unserviceable 5 speed clutch was a 4 plate clutch;

5. Goff is asking if a complete 5 speed, 5 plate clutch will be a direct replacement?

(Answer = yes :o) )

@ Goff,

sorry about all this. I think all our prescriptions must be up for review.

Thanks guys , Yes my bike is a 5 speed, 4 clutch , Adrian as answered my question ,I didn't know 5 speed and 4 speed had a different gearbox to clutch centers, I can now buy a 5 plate 5 speed clutch assembly complete , I think 4 plate 5 speed was 350 & 5 plate 5 speed was 500

Thanks everyone , Much appreciated

Hi Gof---------- so long as you have the answer you were seeking then that's all that matters, eh ??.......I'm happy to have been of some help, albeit of a slightly lateral nature.........I feel I must also offer you my apologies for not quite grasping the mettle first time around......You could well be correct about a 350 having the 4-plate clutch and a 500 having the 5-plate clutch ( Presumably to transmit more power ??).........
