If you insure your bike it's on the info provided on your start date for the term of the policy ie 1 year.Any other accident with a car is settled with that other insurer. You are only obliged to let your bike insurer on your renewal date of any other accident claims during that year.Companies in my experience are a bit vague about what shared info they have on there database. For example I have been asked fairly recently to provide proof of 5 years no claim bonus when changing an insurance provider.

Don't Worry be happy.

Hi Guys--------Oh dear Beamish, it would appear that you have been drinking your own Beer !! ( Seeing double, are we ??--LoL !!)........OK, here's an update for you all}------- As a result of having contacted my Insurance Brokers they have been in touch with my Insurance Company who have now CANCELLED my policy as from the 27th of this month !!.........Their reasoning is that had they been aware of my car accident at the time I applied for cover they wouldn't have given it.....So I now have to also disclose this Cancellation when applying for new Insurance..........and I've lost 6 months cover as the policy wasn't due for renewal until August this year.................and any BIKE Insurance that I might be able to get will now cost more, and all because of a CAR accident ( side-swiped the armco on a dual carriageway when car beside me pulled over then drove off----no cars behind me so no witnesses !!) ..........not to mention that the Car policy has also gone up yesterday ( Now over £700 for an old Suzuki Waggon R )...........Time to call it a day I fear..

You need to watch how they have recorded the accident too. I reported a non-fault accident which neither party claimed for (the other driver paid for my repairs). I reported it just in case they suddenly decided they had a stiff neck at some point down the line.

I had to declare this for 5 years. Thing is, the "information sharing" somehow morphed a Non fault, hit in rear by third party, £0 claimed into a fault claim, where I hit a 3rd party in the rear by renewal time. This made a huge difference to the premium and took some sorting out.

Might be time for a subject access request to find out exactly what information they hold about your insurance history on the CUE database? It logically follows that they have no way of knowing if you decide to withold information which isn't listed on that database. It's then up to you if you feel you could morally lie to a bunch of money-grabbing, claim-dodging shysters who would stitch you up as soon as look at you in order to get a cheaper quote...

Insurance contracts are contracts “uberrimae fidei” (of the utmost good faith”. This means that you have to declare anything that could materially affect the risk they are insuring. If you have an accident in one type of vehicle it is deemed to affect the risk of claiming on a policy on another type. If you don’t declare this when it happens you run the risk of invalidating the policy. One can moan about it but the fact remains that you should always be completely up front with insurance companies. That said, there is a degree of sharp practice around and there was recently some noise about the Government looking into the industry, but don’t hold your breath.

Clarification Alan R.I am now reading you took out bike insurance and never disclosed a previous accident/insurance claim? If so no brainer your bike insurance is void.

Hi Guys-------JAMESY} As per Rattlebattles most recent answer......I have Bike Insurance and am a Named Driver on Joyces car insurance.........I had a single vehicle, no injury accident in the car but didn't
think it would be of interest to the Bikes insurers-- so didn't tell them ...........After our discussions this morning I phoned the Bike Insurers and made them aware ---- and they promptly cancelled my insurance !!

Later I got to thinking that I might as well search for fresh insurance using my existing Brokers as they also are aware of my full details..........They have come up trumps and I am now with AVIVA, fully comp on my Bullet '65 with breakdown recovery, Home Start ( I defy any of their "Mechanics" to start The Red Baron !!) European recovery ( We let our passports lapse as we no longer will be travelling abroad anyway ) and 4 years NCB for}---- £146 !!..........So it's all done and dusted--lesson learnt and Der Rot Baron rides again !!-----------YEEE, HaRRRRR !!

Oh dear, yes, that is another declaration you will have to make now. 'Have you ever had insurance refused, cancelled or special terms imposed' with the emphasis on 'ever' rather than within the last 5 years or so. Your best bet would be to shop around, by phone, explaining the circumstances exactly. LV were more than fair with me following my speeding conviction a few years back. No increase in car premium and I transferred my bike insurance to them for half the cost of my former insurer who was one of these special bike brokers.

A friend of mine has a 6 wheel policy with Carole Nash. He has his BMW car, a Honda 800 VFR V-Tec and a Fireblade all on the same policy for a little over £500 (fully comp). The premium is reduced because his wife, who never drives but has a full licence, is also on the policy. Doing it this way eliminates the problem highlighted regarding car and bike policies but won’t suit everyone.
